FAQs

Naviva provides counselling, supervised contact, supervised handovers/changeovers and child transport services across Perth. Below are answers to some common questions about our services, bookings and what to expect.

Children's Contact Service

What is a Children’s Contact Service?
A Children’s Contact Service supports children and families where assistance is required with contact, changeovers or related arrangements following separation. Naviva provides child-focused supervised contact, supervised handovers/changeovers and child transport in suitable community settings across Perth.

Supervised Contact

What is supervised contact?
Supervised contact allows a child to spend time with a parent, family member or other significant person while an independent professional is present. Naviva provides child-focused supervised contact with the child’s safety, wellbeing and comfort at the centre of the service.

Does needing supervised contact mean I have done something wrong?
No. Supervised contact is a supportive arrangement designed to help children spend time with a parent, family member or significant person in a safe and child-focused way. It may be arranged for a range of reasons, including court arrangements, family conflict, safety concerns or where additional support is considered appropriate. The use of supervised contact does not, by itself, determine fault or make a finding about either parent.

Where does supervised contact take place?
Naviva provides supervised contact in suitable community-based locations across Perth, including parks, playgrounds, libraries, recreational facilities and other child-friendly settings where appropriate.

Who supervises the contact?
Naviva’s supervised contact services are provided within a professional, child-focused framework and are overseen by a qualified Social Worker with experience supporting children and families.

What happens if my child becomes distressed?
The child’s wellbeing remains the priority. Naviva will respond sensitively to signs of distress and may pause, modify or end a session where continuing is not considered appropriate for the child’s safety or wellbeing.

Does Naviva provide supervised handovers?
Yes. Naviva provides supervised handover and changeover services where families require support with the safe transfer of a child between parents or caregivers.

Can I book transport without supervised contact?
Yes. Transport-only services are available where the arrangement is considered suitable. Transport may also form part of supervised contact or handover arrangements. Please contact Naviva for availability and a quote.

Do you provide supervised contact reports?
Yes. Formal reports may be available where requested and accepted by Naviva, required by a court order or otherwise agreed as part of the service arrangement. Additional fees apply in accordance with the current Fee Schedule.

Is information provided to Naviva confidential?
Information provided during Children’s Contact Services is treated confidentially. However, confidentiality is not absolute. Information may be disclosed with consent, where necessary for safety or service delivery, or where required or authorised by law. Reports and other information may also be provided to authorised parties or legal representatives in accordance with the service arrangement and applicable legal requirements.

Counselling

Who can access counselling through Naviva?
Naviva provides counselling for children, young people and adults where the service is appropriate to their needs and within Naviva’s scope of practice.

What can counselling help with?
Counselling can support people experiencing emotional, behavioural, relationship or life challenges. Sessions may help clients better understand thoughts, emotions and patterns, strengthen coping skills, navigate challenges and work towards meaningful change.

Does Naviva offer telehealth counselling?
Yes. Counselling may be provided by telephone or secure video conferencing where telehealth is appropriate for the client and their circumstances.

Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Information shared during counselling is treated confidentially, subject to important legal and safety-related limits. Information may need to be disclosed where there is a serious safety concern, concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child, where disclosure is authorised or required by law, or where consent has been provided.

Can children and young people receive counselling?
Yes. Naviva considers the child or young person’s age, maturity, understanding and capacity to participate, together with any relevant parental responsibility, consent requirements or court arrangements.
